Dear Middlesex Community,
Through several months, our evaluation committee including administrators, teachers, and the district language arts curriculum leader have reviewed four different sets of curricula approved by the Virginia Department of Education through the requirements from the Virginia Literacy Act. The goal of purchasing a language arts curriculum for the elementary school is to comply with the Virginia Literacy Act by adopting a core instructional program based on evidence-based literacy instruction and science-based reading research. The committee reviewed the curricula based on the quality and variety of texts, systematic knowledge building around topics, explicit writing instruction to include a focus on sentence-level work, and alignment to supplemental materials already used at MES.
The language arts curriculum proposed for adoption is the Bookworms Curriculum.
The curriculum can be found here for your review:

We are seeking community input to review and submit feedback before the April 8, 2024 school board meeting.
Please use this form to submit your feedback.
