For the past six years, sixth grade students have taken part in the John Mitchell Essay Contest. This Friday, the Friends of Urbanna honored the winners of this year’s competition. Congratulations to Caden Spurlock, who earned first place! In total, 15 students were recognized for their work. The top four essays received certificates, prize money, and a large chocolate bar as part of their award. As part of the experience, students visited the Town of Urbanna Visitors Center Museum and were treated to a special presentation by Dr. Robusto, who enriched their understanding of the Mitchell Map.

Our 5th graders are getting hands-on with Makey Makey, an innovative tool that turns everyday objects into touchpads and helps students explore electrical circuits in a fun, interactive way! By connecting playdough or pencil drawings to their computers, students learned the basics of conductivity, circuits, and how electricity flows — making abstract science concepts come to life. This hands-on experience sparks creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of STEM principles. We’re proud to empower our young scientists with tools that make learning engaging and memorable!

The class of 2025, along with their parents and the community celebrated their baccalaureate services Sunday evening. The countdown to graduation is on! Thank you Harmony Grove Baptist Church for hosting and celebrating our students and families!

As we get closer to the end of the school year, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff members who will be retiring in a few short weeks. ICYMI... At last night's School Board Meeting, we were proud to recognize Thomas Dobb as the recipient of the Region III Superintendent’s Scholarship, awarded in honor of Dr. Tracy Seitz and generously sponsored by RRMM Architects. Thomas was awarded a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of his academic achievements and commitment to excellence. His hard work truly reflects the spirit of Middlesex County Public Schools!

Music filled the middle school this week as the community enjoyed performances by the 6th grade band and then by the 7th and 8th grade concert band and honor band.

Middlesex County Public Schools is proposing the adoption of math textbooks for grades kindergarten through grade 8, Algebra I and II, and Geometry. Through several months our teacher committees have been evaluating textbooks that align to the standards of learning and offer the support and structure for our students.
