Alternative Pathway to Graduation, More In-Depth Learning and Engaged Community Involvement

In 2018, Middlesex County Public Schools opened the Compass Academy, an award-winning non-traditional learning environment that has been developed based on a unique vision and a focus on innovation. Since 2018, the Compass Academy has been recognized for its transformational work with students and has been celebrated throughout the Commonwealth, garnering attention from the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) and Virginia Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (VASCD).

In education, we recognize that every student is different. At the Compass Academy, we focus on creating a personalized learning environment that is customized to each students' unique journey. Compass is designed as an alternative pathway to graduation allowing  secondary students the opportunity to demonstrate their unique abilities and hone in on their interests. In a non-traditional learning environment, we encourage students to excel through self paced learning, purposeful and intentional community engagement, & work place readiness development, ultimately providing a more in depth secondary learning experience.
